While creating or editing a Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) profile, the following error message appears:
MAPI Initialize error 800004005
or if during the installation of BlackBerry Enterprise Server services at the MAPI Settings window:
The setup application could not initialize the Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI client. Make sure that MAPI is installed and configured correctly and the Microsoft Exchange Server and mailbox that you specified are correct.

Cause 1
Microsoft® Exchange System Manager or Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects version 1.2.1 is not installed on the computer running the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server.
Cause 2
The fixmapisvc.exe tool has not yet been run on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Cause 1

Resolution 1
- For Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, install Exchange Administrator on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- For Microsoft Exchange 2000 or 2003, install Microsoft Exchange System Manager on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- For Microsoft Exchange 2007, install Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects version 1.2.1.
Refer to Microsoft Support for information on installing these programs.
Cause 2
The fixmapisvc.exe tool has not yet been run on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Resolution 2
Run fixmapisvc.exe on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Complete the following steps:
- Stop all the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services.
- Rename Mapisvc.inf in c:\Windows\System32 to Mapisvc.inf.old.
- Create a new text file in c:\Windows\System32 and rename it to Mapisvc.inf.
- Locate the fixmapisvc.exe then open a command prompt and browse to that location. By default, the location is C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Utility.
- Type Fixmapisvc.exe and press Enter.
