To install BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.6 MR3, complete the following steps:

  1. Back up the BlackBerry Configuration Database. For more information on performing a backup of the BlackBerry Configuration Database, see article KB10292.
  2. Update the BlackBerry Configuration Database schema.
    1. If the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version is earlier than 4.1 SP4, and the BlackBerry Configuration Database is hosted on Microsoft® SQL Server® 2000, install BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.4 to make sure the BlackBerry Configuration Database schema is updated to 4.1.4. If the BlackBerry Configuration Database is hosted on Microsoft SQL Server 2005, upgrading to BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1.4 prior to applying SP6 is not a requirement.

Important: Do not start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services after completing the upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.4. To make sure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services are not started, clear the Start Service check box on the last screen of the setup program as shown in the following image:

    2. If the BlackBerry Configuration Database is hosted on Microsoft SQL Server 2000, follow the steps described in article KB16453 to manually create and populate the three additional columns required in BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.6.
  3. Install BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.6.

Important: Do not start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services after completing the upgrade to BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.6. To make sure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services are not started, clear the Start Service check box on the last screen of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.6 setup program as shown in the previous image.

  4. Install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1.6 MR3. After the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is restarted, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will automatically start.
  5. Verify that the service book throttling registry keys have been created. The default value for the SBThrottleLimit registry key is 20. For more information on the service book throttling registry keys, see article KB16447.

Important: Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see KB04789.

CollapseAdditional Information

After applying BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.6 MR3, if a calendar slow synchronization process is initiated and data is sent from the BlackBerry smartphone to synchronize to the Novell GroupWise server, by design, the synchronization request will be cancelled (SDR268627). To correct this issue, apply BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1.6 MR4.

To synchronize calendar data manually from the Novell GroupWise server to the BlackBerry smartphone after activation, from Calendar > Options on the BlackBerry smartphone, set the Wireless Synchronization option to No and clear the data in the Calendar application on the BlackBerry smartphone. To manually clear the information on the Calendar database on the BlackBerry smartphone, use the Backup and Restore function found in BlackBerry® Desktop Manager. After the Calendar database on the BlackBerry smartphone is cleared, set the Wireless Synchronization option for the Calendar application to Yes to initiate the the synchronization process.

Another method to clear the Calendar database directly on the BlackBerry smartphone is to go to Calendar > Options, and type RSET. This command deletes all the calendar entries on the BlackBerry smartphone and initiates the synchronization process. For more information on deleting calendar data on BlackBerry smartphones, see article KB15139.
