Duplicate Desktop or Unknown service books are found in the calendar or contact list options of the BlackBerry® smartphone. This issue typically occurs after a BlackBerry smartphone has been synchronized with BlackBerry® Desktop Manager or when a backup file has been restored to the BlackBerry smartphone.

This behavior is expected when performing a wired organizer data synchronization between a BlackBerry smartphone and multiple mailboxes.

When calendar entries or contacts are synchronized to the BlackBerry smartphone from two different sources (for example, wired or wireless synchronization) this can cause duplicate Desktop Calendar or Desktop Contact Lists.

This is a previously reported issue that is being investigated by our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.

CollapseWorkaround

To work around this issue, complete one of the following sets of steps:

Workaround 1

To check for multiple service books for the Calendar or Contact list database, open the application on the BlackBerry smartphone, press the Menu key, and click Options. If multiple service books are found, complete the following steps to delete both Desktop [CICAL] or Desktop [SYNC] service books:

  1. On the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Advanced Options.
  2. Open Service Book.
  3. Highlight the first Desktop [CICAL] or Desktop [SYNC] service record, press the Menu key, click Delete, and then confirm the removal.
  4. Repeat the previous step for each listing of Desktop [CICAL] or Desktop [SYNC].

To resend service books to the BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps:

BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 4.1

From BlackBerry Manager, right-click the BlackBerry smartphone user's account and click Resend service books.

BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 5.0

  1. In the BlackBerry Administration Service, on the BlackBerry solution management menu, expand User.
  2. Click Manage users.
  3. Search for a BlackBerry smartphone user account.
  4. In the search results, click the personal identification number (PIN) associated with the BlackBerry smartphone.
  5. In the Communications list, click Resend service books to a device.

Workaround 2

To reset the Calendar or Contact list, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the Calendar or Contact list application.
  2. Press the Menu key and click Options.
  3. Type the letters rset to clear and synchronize the Calendar or Contact list database, over the wireless network, from the messaging server.

Workaround 3

The following steps apply when multiple service books are not found for the Calendar or Contact list database on the BlackBerry smartphone:

  1. Use the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to back up the BlackBerry smartphone data. For more information, see KB12487.
  2. Delete all BlackBerry smartphone data. For more information, see KB02318.
  3. Activate the BlackBerry smartphone over the wireless network. For more information, please refer to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administration Guides found here

Workaround 4

Use the duplicate address book tool to remove duplicate address books. Full instructions on how to get and use the tool is listed in KB22962
