The BlackBerry Administration Service web page does not open and the BlackBerry Administration Service - Application Server service does not stay started. The following log lines appear in the BlackBerry Administration Service - Application Server (BBAS-AS) log file:
(05/20 13:35:41:659):{main} [org.jboss.system.ServiceController] [WARN] Problem creating service jboss.remoting:type=Connector,transport=socket3843,handler=ejb3
java.lang.NullPointerException
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 5.0 to 5.0 SP1
- SDR338367
- SDR339322
This issue is caused by an underscore in the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the BlackBerry Administration Service host computer.
This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.
Workaround 1
Modify the Start Param Number 0 registry key to include the static Internet Protocol (lP) address of the host computer instead of the FQDN.
- To open the Registry Editor, click Start > Run and type regedit and press ENTER.
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BAS-AS\Parameters.
- Edit the Start Param Number 0 value and change the information after the -b value from the FQDN to the static IP address of the computer.
Workaround 2
Create a valid Domain Name System (DNS) entry without an underscore.
- Create a valid DNS entry and map it to the IP address of the computer running the BlackBerry Administration Service.
- Follow the steps from Workaround 1 to update the value after -b with the valid DNS entry.
Note: Any shortcuts accessing the BlackBerry Administration Service must be updated with either the static IP address or DNS entry from the above workarounds.
