Using PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers and AllowUnsyncedINotes registry keys for IBM Lotus iNotes users

Article ID: KB20346

Type: Support Content

Last Modified: 10-24-2011

Product(s) Affected:

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for IBM® Lotus® Domino®
CollapseOverview

The following two registry keys affect population of personal information management (PIM) information (server/relative path) on BlackBerry® Enterprise Server:

Warning: System/database changes could potentially result in irreparable damage. Prior to making any system/database changes it is recommended that you perform a system/database backup.

PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers

The PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers can disable the PIM auto-population for IBM® Lotus® iNotes™ users.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP4 to 4.1 SP7, 5.0 for IBM Lotus Domino

The key with type DWORD is not created by default. To create this registry key, complete the following steps:

  1. If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows®, navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents

If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents

  2. Administrators can set the registry DWORD value for PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers to the following values:
  • Absent - Default (IBM Lotus iNotes users have address book and journal preset to mailfile when the IBM Lotus iNotes user is added to BlackBerry Enterprise Server.)
  • Nonzero - Default
  • 0 - IBM Lotus iNotes users do not have address book and journal preset to mailfile when the IBM Lotus iNotes user is added to BlackBerry Enterprise Server. They remain blank, the same as non-IBM Lotus iNotes users.

Note: Roaming BlackBerry smartphone users are affected by this key as well.

This key works only for IBM Lotus iNotes users whose mail file uses a template prior to R8. R8 does not synchronize contacts; it replicates (although it does synchronize to the journal). However, if PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers = 0, it turns off the AllowUnsyncedINotes key.

If a BlackBerry smartphone user has synchronized contacts with the mail file and PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers is absent or set to a Nonzero value, then the relative path for the address book is populated (this also applies to Journal).

If a BlackBerry smartphone user has not synchronized contacts with the mail file or PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers = 0, then the relative path for Address Book is not populated (this also applies to Journal.)

This registry key is not recommended to use if there are BlackBerry smartphone users with customized relative path sources. For more information, see KB15595.

BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 5.0 SP1 to 5.0 SP3 for IBM Lotus Domino

From BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 SP1, the PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers key was moved to the traits.

The following ways can be used to change the PrepopulatePIMForNotesUsers trait:

  • Using the Traittool utility. For information on how to use the Traittool to check and modify the PrepopulatePIMForNotesUsers trait, see KB21587.
  • Using BlackBerry Administration Service Console for BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 5.0 SP2 to 5.0 SP3 for IBM Lotus Domino
  1. In the BlackBerry Administration Service, on the Servers and components menu, expand BlackBerry Solutiontopology > BlackBerry Domain > Component view > Email.
  2. Click the instance that you want to change.
  3. Click Edit instance.
  4. On the Messaging tab, in the Messaging options section, in the Agent who determined organizer data location drop-down list, select Administrator only or Agent and Administrator
  5. Click Save all

AllowUnsyncedINotes

The AllowUnsyncedINotes key enables wireless organizer data synchronization support for local IBM Lotus Domino web access (IBM Lotus iNotes) accounts that have not synchronized with the IBM Lotus Domino mail server.

To create this registry key, complete the following steps:

  1. If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows, navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents

If you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Agents

  2. Create a new DWORD value called AllowUnsyncedINotes . This key can be set to the following values:
  • 1 - If this value is set to 1, the relative paths for all PIM sources are populated.
  • 0 - If this value is set to 0, or the registry key doesn't exist, the relative paths for all PIM sources are not populated. (This is the default setting.)

Note: By default, this key does not exist . AllowUnsyncedINotes works for any IBM Lotus iNotes user if the registry key PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers <> 0. PrepopulatePIMForiNotesUsers is like a parent key for AllowUnsyncedINotes.

This registry key is not recommended for use if there are BlackBerry smartphone users who use wired synchronization.
