When the BlackBerry® smartphone is connected to the computer and the application loader tool is opened in BlackBerry® Desktop Manager, the following error message appears on the Device Application Selection screen:

BlackBerry Desktop Manager 3.5 to 4.2

No system software was found for your device

OR

No system software found

BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.3 to 5.0

The BlackBerry Desktop Software does not have BlackBerry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wirless service provider or system administrator.

Perform the appropriate steps for resolution.

Step 1 - BlackBerry Device Software is not installed on the computer.

Note: Some wireless service providers do not bundle the BlackBerry Desktop Software and the BlackBerry Device Software in the same installation file.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the BlackBerry smartphone from the computer.
  2. Go to the wireless service provider web site and download the latest version of BlackBerry Device Software for the BlackBerry smartphone.
  3. Install the BlackBerry Device Software on the computer.
  4. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
  5. Run the application loader tool in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. For instructions, see KB04537.

The Device Application Selection screen lists the BlackBerry Device Software that is installed on the BlackBerry smartphone and the software available for installation.

Step 2 - Incorrect Device Software is installed for your BlackBerry smartphone model

BlackBerry Device Software is installed on the computer, but does not match the BlackBerry smartphone model that is connected to the computer. For example, the error message appears if BlackBerry Device Software for the BlackBerry® 7290 smartphone is installed on the computer, but the computer is connected to a smartphone from the BlackBerry® 8700 Series.

Note: This situation typically occurs if the BlackBerry smartphone is updated and connected to the computer before the necessary BlackBerry Device Software is installed on the computer.

Download and install the BlackBerry Device Software for the specific BlackBerry smartphone model. For instructions, see KB04537.

To determine the BlackBerry smartphone model, on the Home screen, click Options > About.

Step 3 - The BlackBerry Device Software was not downloaded from the appropriate wireless service provider web site.

Note: BlackBerry Device Software is specific to the wireless service provider.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the wireless service provider web site, and download the BlackBerry Device Software for the BlackBerry smartphone model.
  2. Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  3. Install the BlackBerry Device Software. For instructions, see KB04537.
  4. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, and run the application loader tool.

For instructions on how to identify the BlackBerry Device Software that is installed on the computer (if any), see the Additional Information section.

Step 4 - The BlackBerry Device Software installation or application loader tool files are corrupted.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Remove the BlackBerry Device Software using Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion.
  3. Delete the Application Loader folder.
  4. Install the BlackBerry Device Software again.

Note: The BlackBerry Device Software is dependent on the BlackBerry smartphone model as well the wireless service provider that the BlackBerry smartphone was originally purchased from.

CollapseAdditional Information
