How to reload BlackBerry Device software and applications using BlackBerry Desktop Software

To use the application loader tool to install BlackBerry Device Software, complete the following steps:

Warning: The following procedure will delete either all data, or all data and applications on the BlackBerry smartphone. Back up the BlackBerry smartphone data before proceeding. For instructions, see article KB12487.

For BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.5 to 5.0:

  1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Click Help.
  3. Select About BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  4. Click the Device Software tab.
  5. Verify that the BlackBerry Device Software displayed is the latest version currently available from the wireless service provider.
  6. For instructions on how to download the latest versions of BlackBerry Desktop Software and BlackBerry Device Software, see article KB12532.
  7. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer using a data USB cable and open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  8. Double-click Application Loader.
  9. Click Start under Update Software to start the installation process.
  10. Type the BlackBerry smartphone password, if prompted, and click OK.
  11. Select Options under Device Software Options.
  12. Select the check boxes next to the names of the applications to be loaded, and then click Next.
  13. Click OK > Next > Finish.
  14. When the process has completed, the message The loading operation was successful will appear. Click Close to return to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. To perform an installation of the BlackBerry Device Software using BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.1 to 4.3, complete steps 6 through 10, above, and then proceed with step 15.
  15. Select the check boxes next to the names of the applications to be loaded, and then click Next.
  16. Click Finish.
  17. When the process has completed, the message The loading operation was successful will appear, click Close to return to BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

For BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0 to 7.1:

  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer using data USB cable and open the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
  2. Type the BlackBerry smartphone password, if prompted, and click OK.
  3. On the home screen of the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Device.
  4. Click Update.
  5. Click View Other Versions.
  6. Select the latest version of BlackBerry Device Software.
  7. Click Install.
  8. Click Install Update.

To add or remove additional applications on the BlackBerry, select Applications.

Note: It can take several minutes for the applications to be displayed.

To add an application, select the + icon. The color will change to Green.

To delete an installed application, select the x icon. The color will change to red. Once desired changes are selected, click on Apply to complete the loading process.
