How to enable Automatic Wireless Backup for a BlackBerry smartphone on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server

To enable Automatic Wireless Backup on BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 4.0 to 4.1, complete the following steps:

  1. In the left pane of BlackBerry Manager, select a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  2. On the Users tab, double-click a BlackBerry smartphone user account.
  3. Click PIM Sync.
  4. Click Automatic Wireless Backup Enabled.
  5. In the drop-down list, click True.
  6. Click OK.

To enable Automatic Wireless Backup on BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0, complete the following steps:

  1. In the BlackBerry Administration Service, select Users > Manage Users.
  2. On the Manage Users tab, click a BlackBerry smartphone user account.
  3. Click Default Configuration under Messaging configuration.
  4. Click Organizer data synchronization.
  5. Click Edit User.
  6. In the drop-down list for Automatic Wireless Backup Enabled, click True.
  7. Click Continue to user information edit.
  8. Click Save all.

Automatic Wireless Backup automatically copies BlackBerry smartphone user settings and data from the BlackBerry smartphone to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. These settings and data can be wirelessly restored to the BlackBerry smartphone when the user is reactivated and already exist on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Automatic Wireless Backup is enabled on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server by default. Automatic Wireless Backup also allows settings and data that are not already stored in the messaging system to be backed up.  If the user is removed from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, these settings are deleted.
