Unable to turn off the security password feature on the BlackBerry smartphone

The BlackBerry® smartphone user is unable to turn off the security password feature on the BlackBerry smartphone.

Complete the appropriate resolution for the cause.

Cause 1

The BlackBerry® Enterprise Server administrator has set an IT policy to restrict the removal of security passwords from the BlackBerry smartphone.

Resolution

Contact the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administrator to discuss IT policy settings on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.


Cause 2

When the Encryption Mode option is set to Security Password on the BlackBerry smartphone, the Password or Content Protection fields are set to Enabled by default.

Resolution

To turn off the Password or Content Protection settings, complete the following steps:

For BlackBerry® Device Software 4.6 to 4.7.1.x

  1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options.
  2. Click Memory or Media Card.
  3. Change the Encryption Mode option to either Device or None.
  4. Display the menu, and click Save.
  5. In the Options screen, click Security Options.
  6. Click General Settings.
  7. Set the Password or Content Protection field to Disabled.

For BlackBerry Device Software 5.0.0.x

  1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options.
  2. In the Options screen, go to Security Options.
  3. In the Security Options screen, access Encryption.
  4. Set the "Encryption" option from Enabled to Disabled.
  5. Display the menu and click Save.
  6. In the Options screen, click Password.
  7. Set the Password from Enabled to Disabled.
  8. Display the menu, and click Save (input the password when prompted to do so).

For BlackBerry Device Software 6.0.0.x

  1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options.
  2. In the Options screen, go to Security.
  3. In the Security screen, access Encryption.
  4. Scroll down to Media Card section
  5. Uncheck the Encrypt box
  6. Display the menu, and click Save (input the password when prompted to do so).

Inserting a media card into the BlackBerry smartphone is not required for the Encryption Mode option to be set to Security Password.
