How to remove the BlackBerry components for a decommissioned BlackBerry Enterprise Server

The following conditions are required to remove the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Services, BlackBerry® Mobile Data System (BlackBerry MDS) Services, BlackBerry MDS Connection Service, or BlackBerry Collaboration Service from the BlackBerry Domain for a decommissioned BlackBerry Enterprise Server:

Note: BlackBerry MDS Services has been renamed as the BlackBerry MDS Integration Service in BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.1 SP5.

  • Each BlackBerry Enterprise Server service must remove the MDS CS to BES Mapping or IM to BES Mapping associations.
  • All BlackBerry smartphone users must be moved or removed from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  • A minimum of one BlackBerry Enterprise Server service must be removed.
  • The BlackBerry Enterprise Server hosting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service must be online and connected to the network.
  • The BlackBerry Enterprise Server service needs to be removed (for example, removal of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software).

To remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server from the BlackBerry Domain, complete the following steps:

1. Remove MDS CS to BES Mapping and IM to BES Mapping.

Note: If the MDS CS to BES Mapping and IM to BES Mapping is not removed first, the MDS CS and IM components will be orphaned.


2. Move or remove all users from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
3. Remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service.
4. Uninstall the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software from the host server.


To remove the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service from the BlackBerry Domain, complete the following steps:

  1. In BlackBerry Manager, select BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
  2. Click Service Control & Customization.
  3. Click MDS CS to BES Mapping.
  4. Remove the MDS CS to BES Mapping for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that will be removed.

  5. In BlackBerry Manager, click Delete MDS Connection Service.
  6. Select the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service to be removed.

  7. Click Remove and then click OK. The BlackBerry MDS Connection Service is now removed from the BlackBerry Domain.

Note: If the BlackBerry MDS CS to BES Mapping is not removed or the associated services are not uninstalled, the following error message will be displayed:

To remove the BlackBerry MDS Services from the BlackBerry Domain, complete the following steps:

  1. In BlackBerry Manager, click BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
  2. Click Service Control & Customization.
  3. Click Delete MDS Service.
  4. Select the BlackBerry MDS Services to be removed.

  5. Click Remove and then click OK.

Note: If the BlackBerry MDS Services is not removed, the following error message appears:


To remove the BlackBerry Collaboration Services from the BlackBerry Domain, complete the following steps:

  1. In BlackBerry Manager, click BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
  2. Click Service Control & Customization.
  3. Click IM to BES Mapping.
  4. Remove the IM to BES Mapping for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that will be removed.

  5. In BlackBerry Manager, click Delete IM Service.
  6. Select the instant messaging service to be removed.

  7. Click Remove and then OK. The instant messaging service is now removed from the BlackBerry Domain.

Note: If the IM to BES Mapping is not removed or the associated services are not uninstalled, the following error message appears:


Note: A BlackBerry Enterprise Server that contains users can not be removed. Remove users or move them to another BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

  1. In BlackBerry Manager, select BlackBerry Domain in the left pane.
  2. Select the Servers tab.
  3. Select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to be removed.

  4. Select Account and then select Remove BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

  5. When prompted to confirm Are you sure you want to remove this BlackBerry Enterprise Server: <BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server_Name>, click Yes.
  6. Remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. For more information on how to remove the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, see KB04096.
