Connection Preference determines how a BlackBerry® smartphone attempts to connect to a wireless service provider's voice and data services. Connection Preference includes the following options:

  • Wi-Fi Preferred

    The BlackBerry smartphone uses a Wi-Fi® connection when possible. If Wi-Fi coverage is not available, the BlackBerry smartphone uses a mobile network connection.

  • Wi-Fi Only

    The BlackBerry smartphone only uses a Wi-Fi connection.

  • Mobile Network Only

    The BlackBerry smartphone only uses a mobile network connection.

  • Mobile Network Preferred

    The BlackBerry smartphone uses a mobile network connection when possible. If a mobile network connection is not available, the BlackBerry smartphone uses a Wi-Fi connection.

This menu option is only available to carriers who support Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) on Wi-Fi devices.

To change the Connection Preference options, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Home screen, go to Options.
  2. Select Mobile Network.
  3. Select one of the following options:
    • Mobile Network Only
    • Mobile Network Preferred
    • Wi-Fi Only
    • Wi-Fi Preferred
