How to update the MDSConfig to reference the correct BlackBerry Enterprise Server

Article ID: KB13618

Type: Support Content

Last Modified: 12-15-2011

Product(s) Affected:

  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Novell GroupWise
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for IBM Domino
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server versions 4.1 SP3 to SP7
  • Microsoft® SQL Server® 2005

After changing the network basic input/output system (NetBIOS) name of the computer using a cutover or straight name change, re-installation of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software is not required. The ServerConfig table is updated if the same BlackBerry Enterprise Server name is used.

If the MDSConfig table has a second row to accommodate a remote BlackBerry® Mobile Data System (BlackBerry MDS) Connection Service installation, map to the new BlackBerry MDS Connection Service using BlackBerry Manager. See the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Administration Guide for more information.

If the new BlackBerry MDS Connection Service is not listed, complete the following steps to change the MachineName in the existing BlackBerry MDS Connection Service:

  1. Run the following command to display the MachineName listed in the MDSConfig table:

    bcp BESMgmt..MDSConfig out C:\MDSConfig.txt -c -T

  2. To update the MachineName, MDSHost, and ServerName in the MDSConfig table, run the following OSQL commands:

    osql -E

    1> use BESMgmt

    2> go

1> update MDSConfig set MachineName ='<New_Server_Name>' where id=<number>

2> update MDSConfig set MDSHost ='<New_Server_Name>' where id=<number>

3> update MDSConfig set ServerName ='<New_Server_Name>_MDS-CS_1' where id=<number>

    4> go

Note: Where id is the row of the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service to be updated.
