When BlackBerry® smartphone users integrate their Google Mail™ addresses with their BlackBerry® Internet Service accounts, they can synchronize Google Mail contacts with the contact list on their BlackBerry smartphones.

With two-way wireless synchronization, the BlackBerry smartphone user can add, edit, or delete information using a computer or the BlackBerry smartphone. The information is wirelessly updated to the other BlackBerry smartphone.

Synchronization with Google Mail is done over the wireless network. The BlackBerry smartphone user does not have to connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer by USB cable. The BlackBerry smartphone user can synchronize multiple Google Mail contact lists. The BlackBerry smartphone user can view an aggregated contact list or can choose to view or search each contact list independently.

If the BlackBerry smartphone is also associated with an email address that uses a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server, the contact list on the BlackBerry smartphone will contain contacts from both the Google Mail address and contacts from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server email address. BlackBerry smartphone users cannot synchronize contacts between their Google Mail address and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server email address.

Benefits of this feature include the ability to do the following tasks wirelessly:

  • Import Google Mail contacts quickly and easily to the BlackBerry smartphone over the wireless network

  • Access Google Mail Contacts from the BlackBerry smartphone

  • Synchronize data perpetually (data is automatically updated whether it is updated on the computer or on the BlackBerry smartphone)

  • Add or edit contacts on the BlackBerry smartphone or through a web site, with the changes effective in both contact lists

Note: Contact synchronization occurs every four hours and is limited to 10,000 contacts.

 

Note: Two-way wireless contact synchronization with the Google Mail contact list requires BlackBerry Device Software 5.0.0.284 or higher. Synchronization must be configured through email settings on the BlackBerry smartphone. This feature is not supported on BlackBerry smartphones with BlackBerry® Connect™ software.

 

Note: Google Mail contact synchronization is not supported on versions of BlackBerry Device Software earlier than version 5.0.0.284.
