BlackBerry ID is a master key to BlackBerry products, sites, services and applications, including BlackBerry Protect, BlackBerry World storefront and BlackBerry Messenger. BlackBerry ID enables users to log into any BlackBerry product that supports BlackBerry ID.
Note: BlackBerry Messenger and BlackBerry Protect do not support BlackBerry ID association on the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet
The BlackBerry ID keeps track of applications in one location which is convenient during BlackBerry smartphone or tablet upgrades. Also BlackBerry ID allows the BlackBerry smartphone user to lock, locate or wipe a BlackBerry product remotely using BlackBerry Protect in case it is lost or stolen.
BlackBerry Messenger requires associating the BBM profile with the BlackBerry ID. Once the BlackBerry ID has been associated, it will uniquely identify the BBM profile and allow for seamless restore of the BBM profile when the same BlackBerry ID is used.
If you have previously created a BlackBerry ID (for example, with a previous BlackBerry smartphone or BlackBerry PlayBook tablet), you are encouraged to use it when setting up a new BlackBerry smartphone instead of creating a new BlackBerry ID. Using your existing BlackBerry ID will ensure that items such as previous application purchases and BBM contacts are restored to the new smartphone.
