Article ID: KB24114

Type: Support Content

Last Modified: 11-19-2012

Product(s) Affected:

  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Novell GroupWise
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 SP4 for Novell GroupWise
  • Novell GroupWise Post Office Agent

With BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 SP1 and higher for Novell GroupWise, all communication between the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and Novell GroupWise uses the Novell GroupWise Web Service (SOAP) API. This protocol uses a combination of HTTP, SOAP, and XML to create a Novell GroupWise Web service.

As the Novell GroupWise Object API is no longer used, there is no longer a requirement to have the latest Novell GroupWise client installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Instead, the version of the Novell GroupWise Post Office Agent must be updated and maintained, to provide optimal communication between the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and Novell GroupWise.

As of this writing, the recommended certified and tested version of the Novell GroupWise Post Office Agent is 2012 SP1 for BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 SP4.
