Ring tones and alerts do not play, regardless of the tune or volume setting, after an update to BlackBerry Device Software 5.0.0.822 on the BlackBerry smartphone.

Upgrade to the the most recent BlackBerry Device Software available, see BlackBerry Software Updates at http://www.blackberry.com/upgrade if required.
CollapseWorkaround
  1. While the BlackBerry smartphone is powered on, remove the battery.
  2. Reinsert the battery.
  3. Once the BlackBerry smartphone has powered up, set up a custom ring tone.
  4. When scrolling through the available ring tones, allow the tone to play. This may take several seconds.
  5. Select the desired tone.
  6. If Ring tones and alerts do not play, regardless of the tune or volume setting, repeat steps 1 to 5.
