BlackBerry Desktop Software 2.0 for Mac introduces the ability to automatically restore secure services to a BlackBerry smartphone after a software upgrade, downgrade or reload.  Users who are active on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server will not need to manually Enterprise Activate the BlackBerry smartphone after performing any of the previously mentioned software changes.  The process occurs seamlessly and regardless if a backup or restore is chosen as part of the software update provided the following requirements are met:

  1. The BlackBerry smartphone is active on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  2. The software upgrade, downgrade or reload occurs with BlackBerry Desktop Software 2.0 or higher.
  3. The version of BlackBerry Device Software is 5.0 or higher.
  4. IT policies on the BlackBerry smartphone allow for web based software loading and provide access to the BlackBerry Services database.
  5. The initial BlackBerry Device Software version on the BlackBerry smartphone supports serial protocol version 2.3.
Potential reasons why the secure services would not be restored include:

  1. During a device switch.
  2. During a manual backup and restore.
  3. When access is denied to the BlackBerry Services database.
  4. When the BlackBerry Device Software is downgraded below version 5.0.
