BlackBerry® Desktop Software is unable to obtain a connection to the BlackBerry® smartphone. This can be caused by the Windows® administrative rights not correctly propagated for the BlackBerry Desktop Software.

If using Windows Vista™ and Windows 7, enable the privilege level by completing the following steps:

  1. From the Start menu, click All Programs.
  2. In the All Programs section, open the BlackBerry folder.
  3. Right-click Desktop Manager and click Properties.
  4. Click the Compatibility tab.
  5. In the Privilege Level section, select the Run this program as an administrator check box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart the computer.
