"A communication failure occured with the selected Mobile Data service. the server may be busy. Please try again later. If the problem persists contact your administrator." appears when browsing internal or external web sites on the BlackBerry smartphone

Article ID: KB28840

Type: Support Content

Last Modified: 02-08-2012

Product(s) Affected:

  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange
  • BlackBerry 7 OS and earlier
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 5.0 SP3 MR4 for Microsoft® Exchange
  • DT2036927
When using the BlackBerry® Browser application, the following error is received:

A communication failure occurred with the selected Mobile Data Service. The server may be busy. Please try again later.

Under certain conditions, the BlackBerry® MDS-CS service gets a 2 thread locks. Thread-A acquires a lock on a method,1 while Thread-B acquires a lock on method 2; then, while the threads are executing their methods, they need to call the other method (method 1 needs to call method- 2 and method 2 needs to execute method 3). Each thread waits for the other to release the lock so MDS-CS traffic comes in from the smartphones, but does not get passed to the proxy server.
This is a previously reported issue that is being investigated by our development team. A resolution is currently unavailable.
The BlackBerry MDS-CS Service will need to be restarted to allow for browsing to be restored.
