"A BlackBerry Identity update is needed" message appears when launching BlackBerry App World 3.1

When launching BlackBerry App World 3.1, the following message is displayed:

A BlackBerry Identity update is needed. Would you like to install it now?

After applying the update and restarting the BlackBerry® smartphone, the same message is displayed.

To resolve this issue please complete the following steps:

For BlackBerry Device Software 5.0:

  • Select the Options icon.
  • On the BlackBerry smartphone, select the Applications.
  • Change the drop sown menu to Add-Ons.
  • Delete the entry labeled BlackBerry Identity.
  • Restart the BlackBerry smartphone if prompted.
  • Return to the BlackBerry home screen.
  • Launch BlackBerry App World.
  • When prompted, download the BlackBerry Identity update.
  • After the update has been completed, restart the BlackBerry smartphone.

For BlackBerry 6:

  • Select the Options icon.
  • On the BlackBerry smartphone, select Device > Application Management.
  • Restart the BlackBerry smartphone if prompted.
  • Delete the entry labeled BlackBerry Identity.
  • Return to the BlackBerry home screen.
  • Launch BlackBerry App World.
  • When prompted, download the BlackBerry Identity update.
  • After the update has been completed, restart the BlackBerry smartphone.
