BlackBerry® Tag allows BlackBerry® smartphone users a way to invite contacts to BBM™ or a BBM Group simply by tapping an NFC enabled BlackBerry smartphone with another NFC enabled smartphone.

To invite BlackBerry user to BBM contact list:

  1. Open BBM
  2. Click Menu and Click Invite to BBM
  3. Click on Tap a NFC-Enabled BlackBerry
  4. Align the backs of the two BlackBerry smartphones
  5. The BlackBerry smartphones will vibrate to indicate a sucessful connection
  6. Contact will appear as a pending contact in the receipt's list until invite is accepted.

To invite BlackBerry smartphone user to BBM Group:

  1. Open BBM
  2. Open the desired BBM Group
  3. Click Menu and Click Invite to BBM
  4. Click on Tap a NFC-Enabled BlackBerry
  5. Align the backs of the two BlackBerry smartphones
  6. The BlackBerry smartphones will vibrate to indicate a sucessful connection

Note: NFC must be enabled on both BlackBerry smartphones but its not required for the invited BlackBerry smartphone user to be in the BBM application during invitation. To verify NFC is enabled by going into manage connections and placing a checkbox in the Near Field Communciation section. If the option is missing please see additional information.

If NFC was turned on when clicking on Tap a NFC-Enabled BlackBerry, NFC will automatically turn off after a succesful or failed connection.

A failed connection could be caused by pulling the devices away too quickly or NFC invite screen timing out before a connection could be made.

CollapseAdditional Information

Both BlackBerry smartphone users must have BlackBerry Messenger 6.1 to utilize BlackBerry Tag within BBM.

NFC technology not enabled for all carriers, please check with the wireless service provider for availability.
