SMTP credentials are populated on the BlackBerry PlayBook when the email account does not support SMTP authentication

During the setup of a new email account the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet will provide configuration settings. 

After the settings are saved the following error maybe displayed:

Unable to log in: SMTP server mx.domain.ca, port 25 does not support authentication.  Try setting SSL to StartTLS, or removing the SMTP user and SMTP password from the configuration.

The email account you are setting up does not support SMTP authentication.

This is a previously reported issue that is being investigated by our development team. A resolution is currently unavailable.
CollapseWorkaround

Complete the following steps:

  1. Click Back
  2. Remove the contents of the SMTP username
  3. Remove the contents of the SMTP password
  4. Select Save
