How to obtain GOID of a Calendar item using EWSEditor

In some cases it is necessary to collect GOID of a Calendar item from a Microsoft Office 365 mailbox.

This can be done using EWSEditor and the properties representing GOID will be PidLidGlobalObjectId and PidLidCleanGlobalObjectId.

Follow the instructions below for each task in order to collect GOID of a Calendar item from a Microsoft Office 365 mailbox.

Task 1 Install EWSEditor

  1. Download EWSEditor version 1.7.1 from
  2. Install EWSEditor version 1.7.1.

Note: In Task 2, if connection to Microsoft Office 365 mailbox is failing when using version 1.7.1, then try using version 1.6.1 which can be downloaded from

Task 2 Connect to Microsoft Office 365 mailbox.

  1. Open EWSEditor.
  2. Click File > New Exchange Service.
  3. Select the Use a specific EWS URL instead of using Autodiscover to get the URL option.
  4. Enter the URL /EWS/Exchange.asmx (case sensitive) In the Service URL field.
  5. Check the Use the following credentials instead of the default Windows credentials check box.
  6. Enter the Office 365 user account email address in the Username field.
  7. Enter the Office 365 user account password in the Password field.
  8. Domain should be left blank.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click Yes to the Do you want to automatically add the mailbox root to the view.
  11. Browsing or searching for the Microsoft Office 365 user’s mailbox should now work.

Task 3 Obtain GOID properties.

  1. Find the Calendar item using one of the following options:
    1. Open Top of Information Store and double click on Calendar.
    2. In the menu bar click on Other then select Open Item by Id and then enter the EWS ID of the Calendar item.
  2. Add Extended Properties to the View following these steps:
    1. Click on View and select Configure Detail Property Set.
    2. Click on Add Extended Property.
    3. Type PidLidGlobalObjectId in the Known Name field.
    4. Select Meeting in the Property Set drop down menu list.
    5. Click on OK.
    6. Repeat steps a - e and in the Known Name field type PidLidCleanGlobalObjectId.
  3. Verify that the GOID properties are displayed in the list.

Task 4 Collect additional information.

  1. Export the Calendar item to an XML file following these steps:
    1. Right click the Calendar item in the top pane and select Export to XML option.
    2. Collect the XML file.
  2. Collect EWSEditor log.

Using EWSEditor version 1.7.1 will automatically create a log file ewseditor.log (file location may vary so search as required) which can be useful during investigation.
