How to synchronize media from a computer to a BlackBerry smartphone

BlackBerry® Desktop Software allows media to synchronize from the desired computer to a BlackBerry smartphone. BlackBerry smartphone users are able to synchronize music, pictures, and videos.

NOTE: The minimum requirement for media synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Software is BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.1.

Music

The following music file types are supported:

  • MP3, AAC, WMA, and WAV.

Complete the follow steps to synchronize music from the computer to the BlackBerry smartphone:

  1. Connect the BlackBerry to the computer.
  2. In BlackBerry Desktop Software, Click Device>Device Options.
  3. Click the Media Tab.
  4. Ensure Music Source is configured to the application where the music is stored on the computer
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Music.
  7. Do any of the following:
    • To synchronize specific playlists or synchronize songs by artists or genre, select the check box beside one or more playlists, artists, or genres.
    • To synchronize a complete music library, select the All music check box.
    • To synchronize a random selection of the remaining music library that are not in a playlist, select the Random Music check box.
  8. Click Sync.

Note: Be sure all music desired to synchronize resides in the default iTunes or Windows Media Player libraries.

Pictures

The following picture file types are supported:

  • BMP, JPG, GIF, and PNG.

Complete the following steps to synchronize pictures from the computer to the BlackBerry smartphone:

  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
  2. In BlackBerry Desktop Software, Click Device>Device Options.
  3. Click the Media Tab.
  4. Ensure Pictures is set to the location where pictures are stored on the computer. To choose a different location click Browse.
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Pictures.
  7. Click the Computer Pictures tab.
  8. Do any of the following:
    • Select the check box beside one or more folders that contain the desired pictures.
    • If pictures are in a folder that are not listed, click Add folder. Find the folder and click OK. Select the check box beside the newly added folder.
  9. To maintain pictures at their original size, click Optimize to turn off the option.
  10. Click Sync.

Videos

The following video file types are supported:

  • 3GP, 3GP2, M4A, M4V, MOV, MPEG-4, AVI, ASF, WMV, F4V.
  • MP4 for local video playback and Video Camera encoding.

Complete the following steps to synchronize videos from the computer to the BlackBerry smartphone:

  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer.
  2. In BlackBerry Desktop Software, Click Device>Device Options.
  3. Click the Media Tab.
  4. Ensure Videos is set to the location where videos are stored on the computer. To choose a different location click Browse.
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Videos.
  7. Click the Computer Videos tab.
  8. Do any of the following:
    • Select the check box beside one or more of the desired videos. 
    • If the videos are in a folder that is not listed, click Add folder. Find the folder and click OK. Select the check box beside the videos in the newly added folder.
  9. To keep videos that are synchronized in their original format, verify that the Convert Video check box is cleared.
  10. Click Sync.
