Twitter for Blackberry Smartphone users receive the error “The request is understood, but it has been refused." when attempting to log in

When accessing Twitter for BlackBerry Smartphone and BlackBerry Enterprise Server is configured to force all traffic through BlackBerry Mobile Data System Connection System.

Error message when failing is The request is understood, but it has been refused.

Clicking on show details 403 Forbidden: The server understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it.

BlackBerry Smartphone users are able to log into Twitter accounts via the BlackBerry Browser.

Proving that no Twitter API rate limits have been reached.


When the 'Always use HTTPS' option is selected within the Twitter web interface the same issue is received.

Unchecking the Proxy TLS setting on the device allows the BlackBerry smartphone user to login successfully

 To uncheck this using BlackBerry Device Software 7.0

  1. Go to options
  2. Next Select Security
  3. Next Select Advanced Security Settings
  4. Finally Select TLS
  5. Scroll down to the heading Proxy TLS and untick the check box.
