Last Modified: 02-06-2013

Product(s) Affected:

  • BlackBerry Messenger for BlackBerry OS 7 and earlier
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server
CollapseEnvironment
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server
  • BlackBerry Messenger 7.0
CollapseOverview

After installing BlackBerry Message 7.0 you receive the following message:

  • Your IT admin doesn’t support BBM 7.0. If you don’t already have BBM 6.2, you can download it here.
CollapseCause

BlackBerry Messenger 7.0 uses Peer to Peer Messaging to communicate between BlackBerry users. IT Policies that restrict Peer to Peer messaging will prevent the use of BlackBerry Messenger 7.0. It also uses server based contact lists as the BlackBerry Messenger contacts are stored with the BlackBerry ID for the account. Polices affecting server based contact lists can cause the same issue.

CollapseResolution
  • Set the Allow Peer-to-Peer Messages IT policy rule to yes and the Disable Peer-to-Peer Normal Send IT policy rule to no.
  • Set the Disable Server Based Contact List Synchronization IT policy rule to false or leave it blank.
CollapseWorkaround
Install BlackBerry Messenger 6.2. To do this download it here.
