CollapseOverview

SMS messages sent from one contact appear to be coming from a different contact when received on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone.

For example:

An SMS text message is sent by Justin Jones and received on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone. When the message is viewed on the smartphone, it appears to be from Alex Kinsella.

CollapseCause

The contact that the message appears to be from, has non-standard numbers entered in any one of the Phone Number fields.

This can include numbers where:

  • The country code is listed without or 00 correctly defined.
  • Non-standard alphanumeric characters precede the phone number.
CollapseResolution

This is a previously reported issue that has been escalated internally to our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.

CollapseWorkaround

Correct the formatting in all Phone Number fields for the contact displayed as the sender of the message on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone. (In the example above, this would be Alex Kinsella.) Once corrected, return to the BlackBerry Hub or Text Messages application to confirm that the sender's name is now correct.
