CollapseOverview

If the BlackBerry smartphone is charging slowly or not charging at all, attempt to reproduce the issue and determine whether the battery charging indicator is appearing on the smartphone. Also, consider the following:

  1. Are you using a third-party battery or charger?
    • Third-party batteries or chargers can cause power problems, such as the inability to charge. Only use the battery and charger that BlackBerry specifies for use with the device.
    • If you are using the specified charger but the battery still does not charge, check the battery icon on the device. If a question mark (?) appears, then the battery is not genuine and must be replaced.
  2. Are you using an old BlackBerry charger? / Are you using an alternative charging method?
    • If you are using an old BlackBerry charger or an alternative charging method (such as: a car USB port, an airplane seat, or a computer that has no BlackBerry software installed), there might not be sufficient current to fully charge the smartphone in the given time. Only use the battery and charger that BlackBerry specifies for use with the device.
  3. If the smartphone is charging slowly, how much time does it take to fully charge the battery?
    • Approximate charge time is based on the size of the battery in mAh (milliampere-hour) in combination with the mAh power specification of the charger. For example, a 2800 mAh battery being charged with a 2A charger would charge fully in approximately 1.5 hours. Keep in mind that this will vary and is also affected by the smartphone's power consumption while charging.

Troubleshooting

Determine if the smartphone, the battery, or the charger is at fault by swapping them out with others (if possible) and recording the results. If the smartphone has a non-removable battery, you will only be able to test a different charger.

Here are some sample scenarios to use during troubleshooting:

  • Charge the smartphone with the current battery and charger.
  • Charge the smartphone with the current battery and an alternate charger.
  • Charge the smartphone with an alternate battery and the current charger.
  • Charge the smartphone with an alternate battery and charger.

If possible, repeat these tests with another BlackBerry smartphone of the same model and record the results to compare.
