When transferring information from a previous BlackBerry smartphone to a new BlackBerry 10 smartphone, some information is automatically transferred and some is not.

This article explains transferred and non-transferred information, as well as any required steps and additional information that may be helpful during the device switch process.

For more information on switching to a BlackBerry 10 smartphone, visit BlackBerry.com/deviceswitch.

The following information is transferred to the BlackBerry 10 smartphone:

Information type

Steps Required / Additional Information

Contacts

If contacts were wirelessly synchronized on the previous device, setup the email account on the new device under Settings > Accounts and enable contact sync (if supported). For details on email account contact synchronization support on BlackBerry 10 OS, see KB30038.

If contacts are stored on the SIM card of the previous device and the SIM card does not fit into the new device, copy the contacts from the SIM card into the address book on the previous device (for steps, see KB03189) then transfer the contacts. Note: Do not modify the previous SIM card to fit into BlackBerry 10 smartphone. Instead, contact your service provider for a new SIM card.

Troubleshooting

  • If contacts are listed multiple times on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone, see KB33253.
  • If some contacts are missing on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone, see KB33254 and KB33578.

Calendar

Setup the accounts on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone under Settings > Accounts and enable calendar sync (if supported). For details on email account contact synchronization support on BlackBerry 10 OS, see KB30038.

Note: Multiple alarms are not allowed in the Calendar application.

Wi-Fi profiles

Photos and videos

To transfer files stored in Device memory, if the previous smartphone is running BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 and later, use BlackBerry Link to transfer files as part of the Transfer Data to Your New Device process.

Alternatively, connect the previous device to a computer with the USB cable, copy the files to the computer, and then to the BlackBerry 10 smartphone. Also, cloud storage services can be used to sync photos and videos on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone.

To transfer files stored in External memory, the microSD media card can be removed from the previous device and inserted into the BlackBerry 10 smartphone.

SMS and MMS messages

BBM contacts and groups

BBM contacts and groups will be restored when BBM is opened on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone.

For more information on transferring BBM profiles, see KB33259 .

Password Keeper

The Password Keeper information is transferred, but the application itself must be downloaded and installed from BlackBerry World. Click here to download.

For more information on importing passwords from a previous BlackBerry smartphone, see KB33252 .

The following information is not transferred to the BlackBerry 10 smartphone:
