The following information is intended for retail support representatives who are assisting customers with troubleshooting.

Planning and structuring the device switch is important for success:

  • Create a table that captures the automatically transferred data, the data that will not be automatically transferred, and the resolution options for data not automatically transferred. For example, if a customer is migrating from a previous BlackBerry smartphone to a new BlackBerry 10 smartphone the table might contain:

Device switch table

Data type

Automatically migrated from previous BlackBerry smartphone?

Customer action

Email and accounts

No

Recreate any email accounts on the new BlackBerry 10 smartphone.

Contacts (including SIM card contacts)

Yes

When the customer recreates the email accounts and activates contact sync on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone, contacts sync automatically.

If the old SIM card does not fit into the new BlackBerry 10 smartphone, the customer must copy the old SIM card contacts from the old SIM card into the address book on the old device. The SIM card contacts can then be migrated with the other contacts.

Note: You should not modify the old SIM card to fit the BlackBerry 10 SIM card tray. Contact the customer’s service provider for a new SIM card if this is the case.

Note: For more information on contact and calendar synchronization features, visit www.blackberry.com/btsc and search for KB30038 and KB30163 .

Note: For more information on contacts listed multiple times, visit www.blackberry.com/btsc and search for KB33253 .

Other PIM data (memos, tasks)

No

Any PIM data that is synchronized over-the-air will not be migrated. Because of the different delivery mechanisms used by BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 and Microsoft ActiveSync, the customer must add new accounts on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone and leverage direct synchronization with the PIM data sources.

No

When the customer recreates the email accounts and activates calendar sync on the BlackBerry 10 smartphone, calendars sync automatically.
