CollapseOverview

After applying MR7 to the servers running BlackBerry Administration Service web console, in environments where OpenDNS is used as forwarders, the BlackBerry Administration Service - Application Server service fails to initialize successfully. The BAS-AS logs will show the following bind failed error:

java.net.BindException: Cannot assign requested address: JVM_Bind ${bas.http.bind.address}/67.215.65.132:18180

CollapseCause
This is a previously reported issue that is being investigated by our development team. A resolution is currently unavailable.
CollapseWorkaround

Note: The following workaround is only applicable to BES 5.0.4 MR7 and should not be performed in any other versions.

Required to workaround steps:

  1. Stop the BlackBerry Administration Service - Application Server and BlackBerry Administration Service - Native Code Container services.
  2. Open the registry editor.
  3. Go to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BAS-AS\Parameters\
  4. Within the Parameters registry key, create a new String Value JVM Option Number 45
  5. For the Value Data, populate it with -Dbas.http.bind.address=(Value of Start Param Number 3)
Note: The Start Param Number 3 is also found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BAS-AS\Parameters\
For example, if the Value of the Start Param Number 3 = abc.com
The Value Data of JVM Option Number 45 should be -Dbas.http.bind.address=abc.com
  6. Increase the JVM Option Count by 1.
For exmaple, if the value JVM Option Count is 45 in decimal, then set the value of JVM Option Count to 46 in decimal.
  7. Start the BlackBerry Administration Service - Application Server and BlackBerry Administration Service - Native Code Container services.
