This article applies to environments where the Microsoft SQL Server database used by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is installed on a remote computer.


By default, the IBM Lotus Domino Server service starts using the LocalSystem account. However, the LocalSystem account does not have permission to log on to a remote SQL server where the configuration database is stored. Because the BlackBerry Enterprise Server service is a Lotus Domino add-in task in the notes.ini file, it also uses the LocalSystem account to access the SQL server and fails to connect.

The agent log and Lotus Domino console display the following entry, which is an indication of the issue:

[10000] (11/12 09:32:10):{0xB24} Unable to open BESMgmt database: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user '<computer_name>\<local_system_account> '.[SqlState 28000][ODBCDatabase::Connect]Unable to connect to BESMgmt on machine <ip_address>.

If the Lotus Domino Server service cannot log on to the SQL server, then the BlackBerry service cannot run properly because the BlackBerry configuration database is stored on the SQL server.

To configure the local system account, perform the steps in the Configure the local system account for remote authentication section of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Installation Guide version 4.0 or 4.1.
