The BlackBerry® Universal Serial Bus (USB) drivers for Microsoft® Windows® Server 2000 to 2008 and Microsoft® Windows® XP to Windows 7 are available on the Windows Update site. These drivers allow a BlackBerry smartphone to be charged from a computer that does not have BlackBerry® Desktop Manager installed.

BlackBerry smartphone users who have an older version of the BlackBerry USB driver installed on their computer can go to the Windows Update site to get the driver update. It is found in the Optional Hardware Updates section.

When a BlackBerry smartphone is connected to a computer that does not have the BlackBerry USB driver installed, a message appears indicating that new hardware has been connected. BlackBerry smartphone users can choose to connect to the Windows Update site to install the driver.

When you install or upgrade the BlackBerry USB driver from the Windows Update site, the BlackBerry Device Manager is not updated or installed. It is automatically installed with any BlackBerry or third-party software which requires the BlackBerry Device Manager to operate.
