Install a third-party application with the Application Loader

Verify that the third-party application to be installed on the BlackBerry® smartphone is present on the computer. Then, complete the following steps:

Note: For information about setting up third-party applications, see the user guide for your BlackBerry smartphone.

For BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 4.3 and earlier

  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer and open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, open Application Loader.
  3. In the Application Loader Wizard, click Next.
  4. Type your password, if prompted, and click Next.
  5. In the Handheld Application Selection screen, click Add.
  6. Go to the directory of the application you want to add, select the <program>.alx file, and click Open.
  7. Once the application is in the list, verify that the check box next to the application is selected and click Next.
  8. On the Completing the Application Loader screen, verify the software to install is under Applications to be Installed or Updated, and click Finish.
  9. Once the application is installed on the BlackBerry smartphone, click Close in the Application Loader Wizard.

For BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.5 and later

  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer and open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, open Application Loader.
  3. In the Application Loader Wizard, choose Start in the Add/Remove Applications section.
  4. Type your password, if prompted, and click Next.
  5. In the Device Application Selection screen, click Browse.
  6. Go to the directory of the application you want to add, select the <program>.alx file, and click Open.
  7. Once the application is in the list, verify that the check box next to the application is selected and click Next.
  8. Verify that the software is installed in the Summary window and click Finish.
  9. Once the application is installed on the BlackBerry smartphone, click Close in the Application Loader Wizard.
