How to resolve duplicate calendar entries on a BlackBerry smartphone

If calendar entries on the BlackBerry® smartphone are not reconciled correctly with the email application, reset the calendar application on the smartphone to synchronize with the calendar entries in the email application.

Use one of the following methods to reset the calendar application on the BlackBerry smartphone:

Method 1 - Reset the calendar using BlackBerry® Desktop Manager

Task 1 - Turn off calendar synchronization

  1. Remove any incorrect or unwanted entries from the email application calendar.
  2. Connect the smartphone to the computer.
  3. Start BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  4. In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click the Intellisync® icon.
  5. Click Configure PIM.
  6. Clear the Calendar check box.
  7. Click OK, and click Close.

Task 2 - Remove all calendar entries from the BlackBerry smartphone

  1. In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click the Backup and Restore icon.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. In the Device Databases pane, click the Calendar database.
  4. Click Clear.
  5. In the Device Databases pane, click the Calendar-all database.
  6. Click Clear.

Task 3 - Turn on calendar synchronization

  1. In the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, click the Intellisync icon.
  2. Click Configure PIM.
  3. Select the Calendar check box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Select the Synchronize PIM check box.
  6. Click Synchronize now.

Method 2 - Reset the calendar on the BlackBerry smartphone

Task 1-Toggle Wireless Synchronization

Note: The BlackBerry smartphone must be running BlackBerry® Device Software 4.0 to 5.0 to perform this task.

  1. Remove any incorrect or unwanted entries from the email application calendar.
  2. In the BlackBerry smartphone calendar application, display the menu, and then click Options.
  3. Select the relevant calendar, e.g. "Desktop" for a BlackBerry Enterprise Server enabled smartphone.
  4. Set the Wireless Synchronization field to No.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Press the Menu key and highlight Options.
  7. Set the Wireless Synchronization field to Yes.
  8. Click Save.

Task 2 - Reloading the calendar from the server

Note: The BlackBerry smartphone must be running BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 to 5.0 to perform this task.

  1. Open the calendar application on the smartphone.
  2. Press the Menu key and highlight Options.
  3. Select the calendar to be reloaded, e.g. "Desktop" for a BlackBerry Enterprise Server enabled smartphone.
  4. With the calendar highlighted type rset on a QWERTY keyboard or ER,ER,AS,AS,ER,TY on SureType.
  5. Click Yes when asked to reload the specific calendar to continue.

The wireless synchronization of calendar entries with the smartphone might take several minutes to complete.

Note: The email application calendar or the smartphone calendar application can still be used during the wireless calendar synchronization process.

The following factors impact the speed of the synchronization process:

  • The number of calendar entries being synchronized
  • The number of attendees an appointment entry contains
  • The number of calendar entries that are not synchronized correctly with the smartphone
  • The size of the calendar folders in the mailbox
