How to clear the address book database on the BlackBerry smartphone

The following instructions will clear the data from the address book on the BlackBerry® smartphone.

To remove the contacts from the address book on the BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following tasks in the specified order:

Task 1

Disable wireless synchronization.

Note: If wireless contact synchronization is enabled, the address book database will be read-only and unable to be deleted.

  1. On the smartphone Home screen, click Contacts.
  2. Display the menu and click Options.
  3. Below Contact List choose the account to set the wireless synchronization option.
  4. Set the Wireless Synchronization field to No.
  5. Save the changes and close the address book.

Task 2

Clear the address book database.

From the BlackBerry smartphone

  1. From the Address Book application, press the Menu key
  2. Select Options and type RSET on the BlackBerry smartphone keyboard

Note: Implemented in BlackBerry Device software 4.2.2, this clears all entries within the Address Book (all records from Contacts). If Address Book is wirelessly enabled for synchronization and the source is reachable, all address book entries will be re-populated back onto the BlackBerry smartphone.

For BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0 to 7.0

  1. Connect the smartphone to the computer.
  2. In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, go to the Device menu and click Delete Data.
  3. Choose the Selected Data option and select the Address Book - All check box.
  4. Click Delete.

For BlackBerry Desktop Manager 5.0

  1. Connect the smartphone to the computer.
  2. In the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager, open Backup and Restore and click Advanced.
  3. From the Device Databases list, select Address Book and click Clear.
  4. Click OK, and then click Close.

For BlackBerry Desktop Software 1.0 to 2.4 (Mac OS)

  1. Connect the smartphone to the computer.
  2. In the BlackBerry Desktop Software, click Device in the menu bar and click Clear Data.
  3. Choose Selected data and select the Address Book check box.
  4. Click Clear.
