Support - MDS Activation fails if Mobile Data Service uses a proxy server

MDS Activation fails if the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service is using a proxy server. The MDS Activation log displays the following:

[ERROR] (08/31 09:16:48) [DeviceInitListener] Device activation listener. | MDS Connection Service not found. | DevicePIN=<PIN>;; Exception=Connection Service not found.

The BlackBerry MDS Connection Service is not configured to connect directly to the computer running the BlackBerry MDS Services.


To make sure you can connect to the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service and BlackBerry MDS Services, complete the following steps:

  1. On the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, open a web browser, then go to http://hostname:8080. This will open the BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Connection Service web page.
  2. Go to http://hostname:7080. This will open Apache Tomcat web page.
  3. On the BlackBerry Mobile Data Service Connection Service web page, click Connection Service Properties > Proxy > Proxy Mappings, and type the following proxy mappings in the appropriate fields:
    Note: The Hostname and fully qualified domain name (FQDN) must use regular expressions similar to these proxy mappings. Leave the Proxy String field empty.
  4. Click MDS Service Properties > Connection Service > Add a URL.
  5. Type Hostname:8080 and restart BlackBerry MDS Connection Service and BlackBerry MDS Services.
  6. On the BlackBerry device, restart the MDS Activation process.
