Important: Restarting the BlackBerry Controller or BlackBerry Dispatcher delays email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For information on delays in email message delivery when BlackBerry Enterprise Server services are restarted, see KB04789 .

The suggested order to start the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services is detailed below:

  1. BlackBerry Router
  2. BlackBerry Dispatcher
  3. BlackBerry Controller
  4. All remaining BlackBerry Enterprise Server services

Note: The IBM Domino Server and BlackBerry Messaging Agent will start automatically when the BlackBerry Controller is started.

The following is the suggested order in which to stop the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services:
  1. BlackBerry Controller
  2. BlackBerry Dispatcher
  3. BlackBerry Router
  4. All remaining BlackBerry Enterprise Server services

Note: The IBM Domino Server should not be stopped until the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Mail Agent has completely shutdown all users. For a BES with a large number of users, it may take more than 10 minutes (600 seconds) before all users  are shutdown.

Note: The BlackBerry Enterprise Server services can be started or stopped by clicking Administrative Tools > Services from the Start menu.

The BlackBerry services should be stopped or started in the specified order above to reduce the number of errors that appear in the Windows Event Viewer Application Log.

CollapseAdditional Information

When stopping and starting the BlackBerry Controller service on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 and later, the BlackBerry Mail Store Service, BlackBerry Policy Service, and BlackBerry Synchronization Service are also automatically stopped or started.

The order of starting/stopping services presented here is a guideline. If services are started/stopped in a different order the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will still function.
