During the installation of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software, the following prompt appears:

BlackBerry® Desktop Software requires that the Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is installed. Please visit http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB17001 to learn how to install this software.

The BlackBerry Desktop Software installation files did not detect or install the required version of Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

Windows XP and Windows Vista™:

For Windows XP and Windows Vista™, attempt to manually install Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. This installer can be located on the Microsoft web site by searching for “Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1” or by clicking here.

Windows 7:

Turn on the Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 feature in Windows 7:

Open the Control Panel.

  1. Select Programs.
  2. Select Turn Windows features on or off.
  3. Ensure Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 is a selected feature.
  4. Click OK.

Windows Server 2008:

For Windows Server 2008, the following error appears when attempt to manually install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.SP1:

You must use the Role Management Tool to install or configure Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.

This is because Windows Server 2008 ships with the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.SP1 which has to be enabled from Server Manager.

Go to Start > Administrative Tools > Server Manager.

  1. Select Features >  Add Features.
  2. Check the box for .NET Framework 3.5.1 Features and follow the wizard to complete the install.
