Steps to activate a BlackBerry smartphone by connecting it to a computer using BlackBerry Desktop Manager:
- Make sure the user's account that you are trying to activate is added onto the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server.
- Install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager for BlackBerry Enterprise Server use on the user's computer with their mail profile setup on it. (Note: The computer must have an active connection to Microsoft® Exchange)
a. BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.5 to 5.0.1:
b. BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.3 and below:
3. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the Desktop Manager. (Note: Server Status should show 'online' on the bottom bar of BlackBerry Desktop Manager.)
4. The activation should begin automatically within a minute. The screen on the BlackBerry smartphone will display an activation status once it begins.
Steps to activate a BlackBerry smartphone by connecting it to a computer using BlackBerry® Desktop Software 6.0.1:
- Make sure the user's account that you are trying to activate is added onto the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Launch BlackBerry Desktop Software and connect a device
- If the device has never been connected before please follow the wizard and select "Add my enterprise email account"
- Complete the wizard and an activation should start once the wizard is completed.
If the device has previously been connected to Desktop Software 6.0.1 without having an enterprise email account associated use the following steps:
- Make sure the user's account that you are trying to activate is added onto the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Launch BlackBerry Desktop Software and connect a device.
- Select Device options then select the Enterprise Email tab.
- Select the email system you will be using from the drop down.
- Press Ok
- The activation should start automatically within a minute.
Steps to activate a BlackBerry smartphone by connecting it to a computer using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server:
- Plug the BlackBerry smartphone directly into the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
- Right click the desired user and assign device.
- Wait for the BlackBerry Manager to show running status for the user before unplugging from the server.
