CollapseCause

The wmvcore.dll file is not present on the Windows Server 2008 that hosts the BlackBerry Attachment Service.

CollapseResolution

To ensure that the wmvcore.dll file is present and located in the proper folder on the system, follow these steps to install the Windows Media Format package:

  1. Open a command prompt.
  2. Type the command for the appropriate version of Windows Server 2008 from the following options:
    • For Microsoft Windows Server 2008 32-bit:
      Pkgmgr.exe /ip /m:"%windir%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-Media-Format-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.6001.18000.mum"
    • For Microsoft Windows Server 2008 64-bit:
      pkgmgr.exe /ip /m:"%windir%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-Media-Format-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.0.6001.18000.mum"
    • For Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2:
      dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:"%windir%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-Media-Format-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.7600.16385.mum" /ignorecheck
  3. Press Enter
  4. When prompted to restart the system, click Yes.

Important: Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or its services may delay message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones.

CollapseAdditional Information

Although installing the Desktop Experience feature on Windows Server 2008 also installs the Windows Media Format package, installing Desktop Experience will install Windows Mail as well, which causes MAPI failures on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. For this reason, it is recommended to follow the steps above to install the Windows Media Format package.
