The BlackBerry Dispatcher fails to start with "error 5009"

The BlackBerry Dispatcher either fails to start or keeps restarting. Additionally, Service Specific Error 5009 appears when the BlackBerry Dispatcher is started, or Service Specific Error 17113 appears when the Microsoft® SQL Server® is started.

The following event IDs are present in Event Viewer:

  • 17113 - 3(The system cannot find the path specified), C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA\BESMgmt.mdf
  • 17053 - UpdateUptimeRegKey, 5(Access is denied)

The following log lines appear within the MAGT log:

The account that the Microsoft SQL Server was originally configured to run as no longer exists.


Change the Log On As setting for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server by performing the following steps:

  1. Select Start > Run > services.msc.
  2. Locate the SQL service in the list and right-click Properties.
  3. Click the Log On tab and select the Local System account option.
  4. Restart the following BlackBerry Enterprise Server services:
      • BlackBerry Controller
      • BlackBerry Dispatcher
      • BlackBerry Administration Service - Native Code Container
