Perform the following steps to recover your BlackBerry® Groups when switching to a new BlackBerry® smartphone:
Back up the data on the old BlackBerry smartphone by completing the following steps:
- In BlackBerry Messenger, press the Menu key and select Options.
- In the Contact List section, select Back Up.
- Perform one of the following tasks:

- Use the Back up files remotely option. This requires a registered email address.
- Use the Back up files locally option to back up data to the media card.
Restore the data to the new BlackBerry smartphone by completing the following steps:
- In BlackBerry Messenger, press the Menu key and select Options.
- In the Contact List section, select Restore.
- Perform one of the following tasks:

- Use the Restore using email option to restore the contact list using the registered email address chosen in the back up process.
- Use the Restore using a backup file from the device option to restore the contact list using the backup file that is stored on the media card. Make sure that you insert the media card from old BlackBerry smartphone into the new BlackBerry smartphone.
