Product(s) Affected:

  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Novell GroupWise
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express for Microsoft Exchange
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for IBM Domino
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server 5.0 SP2
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Express 5.0 SP2

When multiple IT policies are assigned to a BlackBerry smartphone user through groups, a new method of reconciliation allows merges of the values set within each IT policy.

When this method of IT policy reconciliation is selected, the ranking method that was previously used no longer determines which IT policy takes precedence over another. Instead, a conflict in values determines which value is used in a new user-specific IT policy.

In the following example, Group A and Group B have corresponding IT policies with a conflicting value that results in the value of the higher ranked IT policy (Policy A) being applied.

Note that in the preceding images, the IT policy name is no longer a specific IT policy when the new feature is enabled. The only way to know what values are set by multiple IT policies for each user is to click the IT policy name when managing the user in the BlackBerry Administration Service web console.

Under BlackBerry Solution Management > Policy > Manage IT Policies within the BlackBerry Administration Service web console, the Preview resolved IT Policies menu option shows how two IT policies merge together before using groups to assign them to a user.
