A SIM Toolkit control error appears on the BlackBerry® smartphone following an attempt to place a call or send a SMS text message.
The SIM card security is enabled which prevents the use of 2G and 3G networks.
Contact the wireless service provider and request a new SIM card.
Configure the mobile network to use 2G by completing the following steps:
For device running 5.0 device software
- From the Home Screen of the BlackBerry smartphone , click Settings.

Select Options.

Select Mobile Network.

Click Network Mode.

Change the setting from 3G and 2G to 2G.

Click Menu key.

Select Save.
For devices running 6.0 device software or later
- From the Home Screen of the BlackBerry smartphone Select Options.

Select Networks and Connections.

Select Mobile Network.

Click Network Mode.

Change the setting from 3G and 2G to 2G.

Click Menu key.

Select Save.
