BlackBerry Curve 8520, 8530, and 8900 smartphones experience a continuous reboot after enabling content protection or memory cleaning

A limited subset of BlackBerry® Curve™ 8520, BlackBerry® Curve™ 8530, and BlackBerry® Curve™ 8900 smartphones experience a continuous software reboot after Memory Cleaning has been enabled. Memory Cleaning is enabled when Content Protection is enabled through the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server or using the Options menu on the BlackBerry smartphone. Memory Cleaning can also be enabled on BlackBerry smartphones with PGP® support and BlackBerry smartphones with S/MIME support.

Note: BlackBerry smartphone users who do not have Content Protection or Memory Cleaning enabled are not affected by this issue.


Research In Motion Limited® ("RIM® ") has released software for BlackBerry Curve 8520, 8530, and 8900 smartphones that are affected by this issue. To determine if a BlackBerry smartphone is affected, locate the IMEI or MEID of the smartphone. For instructions, see KB05026.
