Unable to push/deploy the S/MIME support package through software configuration: "The application net.rim.blackberry.secureemail.smime version Unknown is missing."

Article ID: KB22623

Type: Support Content

Last Modified: 12-15-2011

Product(s) Affected:

  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Novell GroupWise
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange
  • BlackBerry Enterprise Server for IBM Domino
CollapseEnvironment
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 5.0 SP1 - 5.0 SP2
  • MKS445085
CollapseOverview

Pushing the SMIME Support Package through a software configuration fails with the following reconciliation error:

Missing dependency
The application net.rim.blackberry.secureemail.smime version Unknown is missing.

CollapseCause
The BlackBerry® Administration Service could not resolve dependencies on SMIME_lib specified in BlackBerry.alx.
CollapseResolution
This is a previously reported issue that is being investigated by our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.
CollapseWorkaround

Remove the following tags from the SMIME.alx file. These explicit requirement definitions are not required because SMIME_lib is always shipped as BlackBerry core libraries.

<requires id="net.rim.blackberry.secureemail.smime"/>

CollapseAdditional Information

This also affects wireless delivery of the  PGP support package via a software configuration.  In this case you will see the error:

Missing dependency
The application net.rim.blackberry.secureemail.pgp version Unknown is missing.

Again the workaround is to move the "requires" tag in the package ALX:

<requires id="net.rim.blackberry.secureemail.pgp"/>

Like S/MIME, the PGP_lib  is always contained within the BlackBerry Core Application Libraries.
