The Language ID or Language Display icon in BlackBerry® 6 OS can be displayed in the top right corner of the screen to indicate to indicate which input language is being used while entering text. For example, 'EN' for English, or 'ES' for Spanish. The following three settings change the display behavior of the language icon:

  • Automatic - (Default setting) Icon will be displayed if the input language has been changed more than once
  • Show - Icon will be displayed whenever text can be entered
  • Hide - Icon will not be displayed at all

To change the Language ID icon display behavior, complete the following steps:

For BlackBerry Device Software 5.0

  1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, select Options > Language and Input Text.
  2. For Language ID, select Automatic, Show, or Hide.
  3. Press the Menu key and click Save.

For BlackBerry 6

  1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, select Options > Typing and Input > Language.
  2. Scroll down to Language Switcher.
  3. Change the Display Icon setting.
  4. Press the Menu key and click Save.

For BlackBerry 7

  1. On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, select Options > Typing and Language > Language and Input Method
  2. Scroll down to Language Icon
  3. Change the Display Icon setting
  4. Press the Menu key and click Save

Note: This feature is only available on BlackBerry smartphones that run BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 and later.
