The Check in button does not display when using Places in Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones

When attempting to use Places in Facebook® for BlackBerry® smartphones, the Check in button is not displayed.


The following will cause the Check in button to not display:

  • The BlackBerry smartphone does not contain GPS functionality and is running BlackBerry Device Software 4.5, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.7, 4.7.1, or 5.0 (BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 to 4.7.1 does not support cell site location)
  • Lack of wireless network availability
    You are in a location where there is no wireless network coverage.
  • A GPS or cell site location has not been established.
    You cannot Check in until Places has acquired a location.
  • The Share my Location with Facebook option is disabled.
  • An IT policy is blocking sharing location with Social Networking.

Note: The cause for the Check in button not appearing in BlackBerry Device Software 5.0 is currently under investigation. This is a previously reported issue that is being investigated by our development team. A resolution is currently unavailable.


Upgrade to the most up to date version of Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones.

  • Attempt to use Places on a BlackBerry smartphone with GPS functionality or use a GPS receiver with Bluetooth® wireless technology.
  • Move to an area that has wireless network availability.
  • Wait until a location has been acquired. If one is not available, please move to a location with better wireless network coverage. Also see KB24970.
