- S/MIME Support Package for BlackBerry® smartphones
In order to enable and use S/MIME protection on a BlackBerry® smartphone the smartphone must have the BlackBerry S/MIME support package installed. In BlackBerry® Device Software 4.5 and higher, the BlackBerry S/MIME Support application is included in the BlackBerry Device Software installer and does not require a separate download. Enable S/MIME message processing in the BlackBerry Administration Service console:
Turning on support for processing S/MIME-protected messages on the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server enables the BlackBerry smartphones SMIME_lib.
By default, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server can process S/MIME-protected messages.
- In the BlackBerry Administration Service, on the Servers and components menu, expand BlackBerry Solution topology > BlackBerry Domain > Component view.
- In the Email section, click the instance that needs to be changed.

On the Messaging tab, click Edit instance.

In the Security settings section, in the Turn on S/MIME message processing drop-down list, click True.

Click Save All.

Configure the BlackBerry S/MIME Support Package to use your digital certificate:
On the BlackBerry smartphone, s elect the Menu button then s elect Compose email.
The following encoding options will be available:
- Plain Text
- SMIME Encrypt
- SMIME Signe and Encrypt
- SMIME sign
Select the Menu button. If certificates have not been configured on the BlackBerry smartphone, the email will not have the Send option. If this is the case, Select Configure SMIME then select your certificate and Save.
The Send option will be available for composing digitally signed and encrypted messages.
