- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
As of January 22 2011, two new IP addresses were added to the SRP address us.srp.blackberry.com.
This addition will result in the following list of IP addresses being returned when performing an nslookup on us.srp.blackberry.com . Note the newly added IP addresses are highlighted in bold:
· 68.171.242.33
· 216.9.242.33
· 206.51.26.33
· 204.187.87.33
Why was this change made?
This change was made to ensure that BlackBerry® Enterprise Servers located in the United States are configured to take full advantage of all BlackBerry business continuity features of the BlackBerry Infrastructure.
Who is affected?
Any BlackBerry Enterprise Servers physically located within the United States (US) that are configured to use us.srp.blackberry.com, but are behind corporate network firewall that does not have all required IP addresses configured.
What needs to be done?
If BlackBerry Enterprise Server is affected by this change, please follow these steps to ensure the SRP and firewall configurations are updated accordingly:
1. Ensure that the SRP Host on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, specifically for the BlackBerry Router is set to us.srp.blackberry.com. This value can be verified by checking the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerryRouter\NetworkAccessNode.
Note: Knowledge Base article, KB04359 can be referenced to confirm which two letter country code to be used within the Network Access Node:
Again, please note that this will Only affect BlackBerry Enterprise Servers that are physically located within the United States. If connections are being made to the SRP host via a static IP address, it is highly recommended to change this to reflect the DNS name of us.srp.blackberry.com.
2. Ensure that any non transparent proxy server settings or IP filtering at the corporate network firewall is updated as soon as possible to allow traffic from the following IP address ranges to us.srp.blackberry.com.
· IP Address Range = 68.171.224.0/19 Netmask = 255.255.224.0
· IP Address Range = 216.9.240.0/20 Netmask = 255.255.240.0
Please refer to KB03735 for more detailed information on firewall and connection requirements for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Please be aware that the following IP addresses for the SRP Host us.srp.blackberry.com will be removed from the US SRP hosts on June 25th, 2011. These addresses will continue to be used for the na.srp.blackberry.com SRP Hosts.
· 206.51.26.33
· 204.187.87.33
Please refer to KB19236 for more detailed information on recommended configuration for SRP connections through a proxy.
What will happen to srp.na.blackberry.com?
With regards to the use of certain DNS names for the SRP Host, such srp.na.blackberry.com, it should be clarified that this particular, commonly used network access node will not be decommissioned. However, it will NOT be updated with new IP address routing information. Due to the importance of fault tolerance and business continuity for all BlackBerry Enterprise Servers, it is highly recommended to adhere to recommended SRP connection configuration settings outlined within this article.
